A Warm Invitation
We are so glad you’ve chosen to visit us. Whether this is your first time or you’ve been with us before, our prayer is that your experience here is both meaningful and life-giving.
At Hooker Memorial, we believe you will find more than a place of worship. Here, you can encounter Jesus Christ in a real and personal way, discover lasting friendships, and be surrounded by a community that cares deeply. We strive to be a church family where peace, comfort, and encouragement are found, no matter what season of life you are walking through.
Our doors and our hearts are open to you. Welcome home.
This church is a cooperating congregation of the worldwide fellowship of Christian Churches known as The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). To help you gain a better understanding of our beliefs, an affirmation of our beliefs, an affirmation of our faith from the Design of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the U.S.A. and Canada is below:
As members of the Christian Church,
We confess that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of the Living God,
and proclaim Him Lord and
Savior of the world.
In Christ’s name and by His grace
we accept our mission of witness
and service to all people.
We rejoice in God,
maker of heaven and earth and in the covenant of love which binds us to God and one another.
Through baptism into Christ
we enter into newness of life and are made one with the whole people of God.
In the communion of the Holy Spirit
we are joined together in discipleship and in obedience to Christ.
At the table of the Lord
we celebrate with thanksgiving the saving acts and presence of Christ.
Within the universal church
we receive the gift of ministry and the light of the scripture.
In the bonds of Christian faith
we yield ourselves to God that we may serve the One whose Kingdom has no end.
Blessing Glory and honor to be God forever.
Our History
Hooker Memorial Christian Church is alive with the love of those who believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and are led by the Holy Spirit to follow Christ’s call to discipleship. We recognize our human problems yet strive to joyously and prayerfully respond to God’s grace. At Hooker Memorial Christian Church, we are a community that laughs together, serves together, loves together, cries together, prays together, cares together, and shares together. You are invited to come, hear, and live the good news at Hooker Memorial Christian Church.
Hooker Memorial Christian Church was organized on October 27, 1957; sponsored by Eighth Street Christian Church. The Church was named for the Hooker family in recognition of their faithful service and generous contributions over a period of two generations.
The church campus consists of a sanctuary and educational building completed in 1961 and a fellowship hall completed in 1970. These facilities sit on 5.7 acres of land located at:
1111 Greenville Boulevard S.E.
Greenville, NC 27858
Services are as follows:
Morning Worship – 10:30 a.m.
Gracious God,
We come to Your table with hearts full of gratitude.
You have welcomed us, not because of our worth,
but because of Your boundless love.
As we break bread and share the cup,
remind us of Christ’s sacrifice and presence among us.
May this meal strengthen us to serve,
to love our neighbors, and to walk humbly with You.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
God of compassion and justice,
You call us to be Your hands and feet in the world.
Where there is hunger, may we bring food.
Where there is loneliness, may we offer friendship.
Where there is injustice, may we speak truth with courage.
Empower us by Your Spirit to live boldly,
to give generously, and to love unconditionally.
Let our lives proclaim the good news of Christ,
in word and in deed.
Amen.
Loving God,
You are our refuge and strength,
a very present help in times of trouble.
We lift up those who are weary, wounded, or afraid.
Touch every heart with Your peace,
every body with Your healing,
every soul with Your grace.
Renew us with the breath of Your Spirit,
that we may rise with hope,
walk in faith, and live in love.
Through Christ, our Healer and Redeemer,
Amen.
